Starting out the year
2012 isn't starting out any better and 2011 left. Lewlew got sick Sunday - throwing up tons and tons. She felt well enough to go to school on Tuesday. Tuesday after school Noodle told me she didn't feel good. Then she threw up all afternoon - until about 11:30 pm. She stayed home on Wednesday and today, but will go to school tomorrow. Yesterday Lewlew woke up not feeling well again, so I kept her home. But she took about a 90 minute nap about 10:00 am and then felt fine. I just got back from picking up Buddy from school and he said his stomach isn't feeling well. This could be another long night. Are. You. Kidding. Me???

Happy 2012 - Thank goodness!
I am glad to be rid of 2011! The last month has been terrible. I am sick of being sick, having sick kids and a sick husband! Go away sickness!!!
So I guess it started with Lewlew coming home sick from school on Dec 9. She sorta acted a little weird that morning, but said she wanted to go to school - so I sent her. When I picked her up, her teacher said she wasn't acting right. So I brought her home and she started running a fever. I thought is was the flu. I gave her liquids, she took a nap, had kinda a rough night. Saturday was the same. Not feeling well. So that night we took her to the InstaCare. The nurse took a strep test which I didn't think was very thorough, so I asked the doc to do another one. Both came back negative. He said she has the flu and sent us home. That night was bad and so was Sunday. She kept complaining her legs hurt and she wouldn't stand on them. Finally on Tuesday (day 5 of fever) I took her to her regular doc. He felt sure she had a UTI but we couldn't get a urine sample. So he said to go home, get a sample and then start her on an antibiotic. By 8:00 Tues. night I still hadn't got her to pee. It had been 11 hours since she peed. I tried everything. She didn't say it hurt to pee, but that her legs hurt when she sat up. So I called the doc on call and he said to take her to the E.R. So that's what we did. The ER doc opted to not catheterize her, but to try an IV and pump her full of liquids. That was terrible. She HATED the pressure of the rubber band on her arm (the thing that gets your veins to pop). She cried so bad for that. She held my hand and just gritted her teeth. It was horrible. She didn't even feel when the needle went in - that's how bad the band hurt her! Finally it worked. They drew some blood and about 10:00 she peed! Yipee! In the mean time, she had to have some X-rays. That was awful too. It hurt her so bad to stand. Finally they got one good film and another so, so. Then they gave her some morphine to help with the pain in her legs. That was interesting - my six year old on morphine! The doc came in to give us the results of the labs. She definitely has a UTI, one blood test should have been a 2 or 3 if you have an infection, her was 8. Another should be in the 20's when you have an infection, hers was 98. In the words of the ER doc, "She is one sick little girl." But he gave her a dose of Rocefrin and left her IV in and told us to see her doc the next day. Also dunning all of this, he found a heart murmur - most likely brought on by the fever. The next day (14th) I took her to see her doc. He was extremely concerned about her. Was debating on weather or not to put her in the hospital but in the end decided not too because of all the contagious kids there. Instead he ordered her an adult dose of Rocefrin every day, wanted to see her everyday until she "rounded the corner" and determined she had a kidney infection but the infection had not yet spread to her blood. In order to get the dose of Rocefrin we had to travel down to UVRMC in Provo to the Pediatric floor. Kind of a pain - but worth it! On Thursday (Dec 15 after 2 doses of Rocefrin) Lewlew was able to handle a bath and stand for the few seconds it took for me to dry her off - which was WAY more than she could stand the day before. We took her back to see her doc. Buddy also had an appointment already scheduled. So we took them both in. Doc said Lewlew was doing better - not good, but better and to continue with the Rocefrin that day and the next and then lets see how she's doing. If I thought she was doing better Friday, I didn't have to take her in over the weekend and her IV could come out. He didn't need to see her on Friday, but he wanted to see her Monday. Which is exactly what happened. On Thursday night, she ate a piece of pizza - which was huge! The difference in her between noon when we saw the doc and 6:00 when we ate was HUGE!I talked to her doc from the hospital on Friday afternoon and he said this was the last dose of Rocefrin and they could remove her IV. And then I needed to start her on an oral antibiotic. She was doing so much better.
BUDDY - I made an appointment for Buddy a few weeks ago. There is something wrong with him and we don't know what. The kid doesn't feel good. He's not sick - he just doesn't feel well. Finally we had enough and took him in. His doc ordered some blood work and an MRI. So Nana took him on Thursday for his blood work and I took him on Friday for the MRI - in the middle of dealing with Lewlew. We got the results and everything looks ok - except that he had a sinus infection. Well I'm sure that isn't what's causing his leg aches, stomach aches, muscle aches, etc. So we're going to go back to the doc and discuss other options. What a stress this has been. (Not to mention financially. Lewlew went to the doc 5 times and Buddy once and the ER co-pay and patient deductible and 20%.)
Then in the middle of it all, Bret got a cold that turned into a sinus infection, I got a cold, Buddy got a cold and Noodle got a small cold a couple weeks ago. But as of today she isn't feeling well. She threw up once yesterday about 5. Today she says her stomach feels sick but she hasn't thrown up. She says her head hurts like crazy.
GIVE ME A BREAK!! I'm ready to leave December behind and start January new and fresh and HEALTHY!!
