Memory Lane Monday

This is me and my brother on my first day of kindergarten and his first day of 2nd grade (I think). This is in Sep. 1981. You can see the corner of our car - it was a Gremlin. It was such a groovy car. This wasn't the greatest house, but it was cute and we lived here for a while when we first moved to Manassa. Check out the big barn in the back ground. We weren't allowed to play in it - gee I wonder why!!

School

Today was the first day of school for Buddy and Noodle. Buddy is in 3rd grade with Mrs. Wardle and Noodle is in 1st grade with Mrs. Gurr. So I am at home from 8/AM until 2:15/PM with Lewlew. I must say, I didn't want school to start. I like the easy, laid back schedule of summer. But I'm sure I would get tired of it eventually. It's good for them to go back and have a more strict schedule and of course to learn. They are on the early track - 8:00 - 2:15. The later track is 9:15 to 3:30. I'm not sure which is worse. The 8:00 is difficult (I know, cry me a river) but we're a "sleep in" type of family. But the 3:30 is a killer too. Buddy seems to do better on the early track so that's what we went with. It's hard to see half the class leave at 2:15 while the other half stays for another hour and 15 minutes - even though they got to school an hour and 15 minutes later. I can't say that I blame him. And I SURE wasn't going to have them on 2 different schedules! We're just going to have to adapt - of course I'm saying that more to me than to them. Wish us luck - especially me - we're going to need it!!

Sweeping

This is such a random post that even IF you finish reading it, you'll probably think Sandi needs some serious meds!
So I was sweeping today and I had a flashback to my freshman year in high school. I was in home ec class with Mrs. Margie Reed. Remember her?? Anyway, class was almost over and we had to clean our kitchens. I grabbed our broom and put the dust pan on the cupboard. Mrs. Reed politely told me that it wasn't good to put the dust pan on the cupboard. The dust pan was dirty and it was gross to put it on a clean cupboard. Of course she was right. Of course my "duh" freshman mind, I didn't even think about that. Well believe me, I have NEVER put the dust pan on the cupboard again!
I know, I'm weird. It amazes me how much I think about dumb things like that. What does that mean - that I often think of the past?? Anyway - enough of that!!

Private: To Go or Not To Go

So I've been thinking lately about taking my blog private. My question to ALL of you - what are the benefits to going private? What don't you like about being private? What are the benefits to being public? What don't you like being public? Tell me your honest opinions - I want to know.
Thanks a bunch!

Memory Lane Monday

This is at our family cabin in Oct of 2001 - Buddy was 10 months old. He's the cue ball, second from right. The rest are his cousins. Since Taina has a blog and has posted about her kids, I guess it'll be alright if I tell you who the cousins are. First on the left is Kylie who was 7, Maddie who was 16 months, Zach who was 5, Buddy, and Katie who was 2 1/2. At the time, these were all of Hub's parents grand kids.

Fishin'

Hubs took Buddy and Noodle fishing yesterday. I don't have any pictures because he didn't take the camera and I forgot to take pictures of them with their fish when they got home. No need to lecture me about it, I feel bad enough! Anyway, they got to their spot and Hubs got Noodle all set up. 10 minutes later, she pulled one in. Then 20 minutes later, Buddy pulled one in. Then the wind started blowing and they got cold. So Bret suggested they go home, but they didn't want to because Hubs hadn't caught a fish. He said, "O, I don't need to catch a fish this time. I've caught many fish before." Then they were more than ready to leave. I was so glad each of them got a fish. It was exciting for them. Noodle ate some of the fish without any question. Buddy, didn't even want to try a bite. But yet, he wants to go again. Who knows. Maybe next time he'll eat some and like it!

Memory Lane Monday

This is my great-great-great Aunt Daisy. She was my grandma's great aunt. She was born Dec 1895 and died May 1976. There are so many stories about her - but here are just a few. Her husband was a JERK. He was an alcoholic and was somewhat abusive to Aunt Daisy - especially after they lost their babies. They had 1 baby boy that only lived 2 or 3 days, a baby girl and a baby boy that were still born. She raised a garden every summer, milked a cow and had chickens. For breakfast she liked dry toast and a fried egg. She had a fence full of sweat peas. She was quite short and could be quite the fireball when she wanted too. She worked hard all of her life - but life was different back then. The year she was born, her dad made her a cupboard. When she died, my mom got that cupboard and now I have it in my living room. It's not fancy, but it's an antique and it was hers and I love it. I love Aunt Daisy and the stories that go with her. I like family history and to hear or read stories about loved ones past. I'm glad my mom does geneology because I don't!!

So funny...

Noodle was talking to my mom the other night. She said something like, "I know what I'm going to get your for your birthday, Nana" Nana: "You do?" Noodle: "When is your birthday?" Nana: "Next month." Noodle: "Well, I'll just tell you because you'll forget by then anyway. I'm getting you a mini tea set." This is the first I heard of Noodle's idea - but it's a good one. Besides, my mom will forget before her birthday anyway, right??? We got a good laugh on that one! The next day, my mom stood up and limped. Noodle said, "Nana, you're just falling apart, aren't you??" First my mom won't remember then she's falling apart. Noodle, you're funny!

Comfy??

We were getting ready to go swimming and apparently Lewlew got tired of waiting...

Awards..

Buddy received his "wolf" in scouts tonight. He also received 2 belt loops, 1 gold arrow, 3 silver arrows, and his outdoor ethics badge. Yea Buddy!! Your hard work is paying off! Since he can't work on his "bear" he can do more in his wolf book and get more arrows, belt loops and beads. This is such a great thing for Buddy. I'm glad he enjoys it. With his dad and grandpa being the scouters they are, we could expect nothing less from Buddy! Way to go Buddy!!

Fun Weekend

We had such a fun weekend - last weekend. It was so nice, I think I've been having "fun with drawls." Mister and I and our family took some friends to our family cabin. We left Thurs. afternoon and came home Saturday afternoon (SOO not long enough.) We really didn't do anything that most would call "fun." We mostly just watched movies. We did go on a walk and drove to Mill Hollow. But other than that, we just hung out. The kids played very well - even though they didn't have anyone else to play with. It was so relaxing - not HAVING to do anything but eat and make sure the kids ate. I want to do that more often. So many times going to the cabin is SOO much work - but this was the first time in a long time that it was really really worth it. We've been many times with our family and it's always nice - but lots of work too.

We swung on the Tarzan swing...
Buddy

Noodle loved it the most...

Lewlew wasn't quite sure...

Hubs...

Cool Tom

We skipped rocks at Mill Hollow - well some skipped rocks, some just threw rocks. There was some work done on Mill Hollow, so it was REALLY low and not stocked. But we still had fun and saw a few fish, too. We can't wait until it's stocked - good fishin'!

Here is everyone but me on the rocks that will soon be covered by Mill Hollow water.

This picture was one of many. As you can see, Tom is the one trying to get everyone in the picture. We were laughing so hard, we finally gave up! Buddy and Lewlew are cut off, but look at the beautiful sky! :)

Thanks for going with us. We can't wait to go again!

Memory Lane Monday

This is a picture of my mom and her best friend at the time, Joann. This was the day we moved from Utah to Colorado - 22 Feb 1981. You can't tell in this picture, but she had been crying. It was a rough day. Joann was a great friend to my mom. Joann and her husband had 4 boys. Will used to play with Steve and Scott and I played with Chad. The 4th wasn't "old enough" to play. Anyway a few years after we moved to Colorado, these 2 friends lost touch. They haven't seen or spoken in YEARS!!
