What Are Best Friends For??

Bestie came over this afternoon to help me prune my rose bushes. Instead of helping me, she did it for me while trying to teach me the correct way. She also gave me some great ideas to rearrange my backyard stuff. Then she did it for me while I sipped DCMP that she brought for me. She spent about 2 1/2 hours in my back yard. Maybe I helped just a little, but I couldn't/ wouldn't have done it without her! Thanks Bestie, you really are the best!

Should I Stay or Should I Go?

For the past several years, Bestie and I have gotten pedicures on Mother's Day weekend. This year we decided to try for Friday night. So I made the appointments for 8 PM and everything was set. I was feeling a little bit reluctant because Mister was home on this Friday night and that doesn't happen very often. He insisted I go and enjoy myself.

Before I left, I peeked in to tell Mister and the kids good-bye and this is what I saw. Suddenly, I felt OK about going. Mister was spending quality time with the kids and the kids were enjoying it.
Bestie and I had a GREAT time. I lost 4 pounds just in calluses on my feet!! The little Oriental guy held up my foot, pointed to a callus and said, "Wot ees dees?" (Translation: What is this?) To which I responded, "That is the reason I'm here." He then said, "Ees goot you ar." (It's good you are.)

They did a great job. About 1/2 way through the guy doing mine said, "You gias ar fonny." (You guys are funny.) Indeed we were. We laughed and joked the entire time.

Adventures in Sewing...

Last week Bestie was mending some pants for her son "Mac." She had ironed on the patches and now was darning them - or sewing around the edges to make them more secure. She had about 6 inches left of the last one when she ran out of bobbin thread. Honestly, that seems to be the only time to run out of bobbin thread. Either then or when you're running a gathering stitch. Which, when that happens, you have to remove all of the gathering seam and start again. Anyway back to the adventure.
So she un-threaded her needle, wound the bobbin, put the bobbin back in place and was trying to thread the needle. For some reason the thread wouldn't go threw the eye. She snipped the edge and tried again. No luck. She licked the end of the thread and tried again. No luck. She rubbed her eyes, cleaned her glasses, inhaled deeply a couple of times, said a few words that will remain unwritten and tried again. Again, no luck. She snipped the edge again and tried again. No luck. She licked the end of the thread again and tried again. No luck. This went on for approximately 22 minutes when she was convinced something was wrong with the needle. She removed the needle to have a closer look. The eye of the needle was clogged up with the adhesive from the patches. Well at least it wasn't her threading skills, right! At this point most people, me, would have trashed the needle, me, grabbed another needle, me, and finished the job. Not Bestie. She cleaned it out with a pin. Lots of people, me, this would have been good enough. Not Bestie. She grabbed a little scrub brush to finish the job. Then she put the needle back in the sewing machine, threaded it and finished the patch job on Mac's pants that he hasn't worn in 6 months or more! Looking back, it took her longer to clean the eye of the needle than it did to sew around all 6 patches. I hope from Mac she gets as a thank you and a BIG reward like a truck load of DCMP and a gift card for pedicures that she can share with her besite. (Mac did you hear that? Hello? Mac? Are you there? Mac?)

Sleepy on Friday & No More Toys

So every Thursday night my bestie (Bestie) and I get together at her house about 9:30 to watch a show. (I'm not endorsing that show so I'll not tell you what it is - but it begins with Vampire and ends with Diaries.) If it happens to not be on, we watch something else or we just talk. Thursday nights are always late for us (which means a sleepy Friday morning!) It's the only uninterrupted time we have to talk. But last night our show was not recorded - thanks to her son who's name shall remain anonymous, it's starts with Mc and ends with Kay. He just had a birthday and is older than 25 and he deliberately skipped our recording. Ya, I could have wrung his neck, but that's another story. So while she was damaging my hair, we were watching the news. Have you heard that in some places - not sure where, we were talking, the government is taking toys out of kids meals? Are you kidding me? What is this world coming to?Not sure what good this is going to do! Not that it affects me much. We very RARELY do kids meal toys, but kids aren't going to eat anything different just because there isn't a toy. Anyway......

Bestie's Birthday!!

Happy Birthday Bestie!! 50 and still going strong!

WOW!!! 50 seems sorta old, but it just doesn't seem like you're this old! (Seriously!)

Here are just 50 of my favorite things about Bestie:

~She likes to talk and we talk everyday - sometimes for just a few minutes, sometimes for hours - literally

~She's a great organizer and decorator

~She's ALWAYS willing to help - no matter what

~We think so alike - sometimes it's eerie

~My kids call her "Super Aunt Val"

~No matter what she's been through, she always rises above

~She has SUCH a strong testimony

~She is a Wonderful example

~She has great advise

~She's humble

~She's forgiving

~She LOVES my kids

~She's a Terrific mom

~She's cute

~She's one of the busiest people I know, but amazingly she always has time

~She's generous

~She's thoughtful

~She's patient

~She's smart

~She's sassy

~She has style

~She's willing to do or try almost anything

~She's not judgemental

~She has amazing endurance

~We are great friends even though there's a gap in our ages

~She doesn't act like she's 50 - but then when I think about how old her kids are and some of the things she's been through, she is very much 50.

~It seems like we've been life-long friends

~She's a great wife

~She's good at whatever she does

~She does nothing half way

~She's has inspiration and is inspiring

~She's an answer to prayer

~She always looks put together - One time I stopped by her house and she was just getting out of her car from doing yard work for her mother-in-law. She was sweaty, but her hair and make-up still looked good.

~She's SUCH a great sister - she has weird family dinamics, but that doesn't stop her from being a great sister

~She has great recipes!!

~She usually attends the temple once a week

~She's sentimental

~She does great nails

~We seem to never run out of things to say

~She's happy - there have been numerous times when we have laughed so hard our stomach was sore the next day

~She's fun

~She has great hair

~She's a great Primary President. She's always on top of things

~She collects Raggedy Ann and Andy

~She likes and has an eye for antiques

~She has an AMAZING voice. She sings so beautifully pure. It's really hard to describe unless you've heard her.

~She is content with what she has

~She's a mover and a shaker - she's fast. I'm still a little amazed when I watch her clean or something. It's done before I can even get out the broom. She runs from point A to point B and hurries once she gets there - but when we are doing a project, I never feel rushed. It just gets done quickly.

49~She almost ALWAYS gives people the benefit of the doubt.

~She is the best friend ever. I don't know what I did before we met or what I'd ever do without her.

Fun Weekend

We had such a fun weekend - last weekend. It was so nice, I think I've been having "fun with drawls." Mister and I and our family took some friends to our family cabin. We left Thurs. afternoon and came home Saturday afternoon (SOO not long enough.) We really didn't do anything that most would call "fun." We mostly just watched movies. We did go on a walk and drove to Mill Hollow. But other than that, we just hung out. The kids played very well - even though they didn't have anyone else to play with. It was so relaxing - not HAVING to do anything but eat and make sure the kids ate. I want to do that more often. So many times going to the cabin is SOO much work - but this was the first time in a long time that it was really really worth it. We've been many times with our family and it's always nice - but lots of work too.

We skipped rocks at Mill Hollow - well some skipped rocks, some just threw rocks. There was some work done on Mill Hollow, so it was REALLY low and not stocked. But we still had fun and saw a few fish, too. We can't wait until it's stocked - good fishin'!
